Beautiful landscapes and interesting encounters.
zutterjp4817 February 2024
I enjoyed very much this journey through the Cévennes: beautiful landscapes (Mont Aigoual, the Corniche des Cévennes, Lanuejols, etc) and nice encounters.

Ther are some interesting aspects of this region: the new inhabitants (Philippe, the pianist and Sylvie, the dancer coming from the Provence, the chestnut trees plantation, the help of Jean-the shepherd-for the breeding of the sheep, Christelle, the cellist comng from Montpellier, is playing cello in the streets of Ganges) , the hippies in the seventies ( Anne and Nadou, the commune, their neighbour André the healer, Claudie-the photographer, explaining how they integrate into the region), the gold diggers of the Cévennes ( Kevin, Pierre and Dominique showing how to find gold in the rivers-"srage d'orpaillage"-, the great gold nugget of France was found in the Cévennes in 1889 and had a weight of 543 grams), the "Plantes infuses" Association ( Claire, Sylvain and Sophie harvesting aromatic and medicinal plants-the peppermint-, the alembic for the distillation of essencial oils, Christiane Fall, the dyer), the abandoned hamlet of la Dèche ( Loïc and David, the restoration of the hamlet, the help of their neighbour Edward and of Roland, the mason) and the life in the Causse Méjan (the limestone plateau-Unesco World Heritage site, André,the shepherd, his mother, the 92 years old retired schoolteacher Léonie, Sébastien the sheep cheese producer and Julie the mailwoman, the large winters in the Causse).

I enjoyed the encounters of Jérôme with Francis and his colleagues at the Observatory of Mont Aigoual, with Dédé-the shepherd- at l'Espérou (the transhumance with the sheep), with Françoise et Philippe at Saint-Martial (the professional retraining and pthe growing of onions), with Paul Remise and Pierre Boissier at the Grotto des Demoiselles (the visit of the grotto, the abseiling and the zipline), with David Hagen at Saint-Jean du Gard (Le train à vapeur des Cévennes- the steam locomotive) , with Philippe Fuster at the Bambouseraie d'Anduze (the bamboo forest ,the botanical garden, the Japanese garden , the houses made with bamboo, the tasting of bamboo shoots), with Dominique Foubert (the ride on the Corniche des Cévennes and the grocery of Le Pompidou,) with Annie van Rousselt (the reference to "The travel with a donkey" written by Robert Loui Stevenson, the walking with a donkey to the Mont Lozère) and with Muriel and Laurent Balembois at Lanuejols-Causse Noir- (the bison farm, the tasting of bison meat and the country folk dance); nice encounters with very kind French men and women.
