Great Acting and moving stories
25 December 2022
The acting is sublime. This is a story very heavy on emotion as it narrates the struggles and pains of a simple family across different eras. The historical context amidst the Japanese/Korean relationships adds a lot to the drama of people struggling to get buy and grabbing to anything, mostly to a few others, for emotional support and often their survival.

This Show is founded on the dramatic emotions that the characters go trough. It's a dark story that most of us can use as a reflex of something in our lives or those of our ancestors no matter the race, culture and time. As such it was imperative to have acting of excellence. It would have never worked otherwise.

As far as i am concerned, any art form is only really good if it influence you in some way or another. As a descendant of European immigrants this TV show was a reminder of the struggles we once had to endure while seeking a better life. And the way the story managed to portray the fact that nearly ALL of us will have to SUFFER at some point in time helped remember that we should always try to be comprehensive and tolerant.

This is in fact an ODE to the hardships of life. It was not an easy going watch and yet i devoured all episodes in a couple of days. Both the magnificent work of the actors and the very humane story effectively managed to play with my emotions. Well done to all.

Mythic Quest: Backstory! (2021)
Season 2, Episode 6

In absolute awe!
21 March 2022
Those side stories are absolute gems. Both this one and 1st season's were wonderful stories that left me wanting more. In fact, i completely forgot what show i was watching. Surely, it wasn't that goofy, easy to watch show about a video game. This was a real Drama that took me away from the main story. The danger of making such episodes is that people might end up wanting more of that new world and get bored with the more ingenuous original series. Everything from the vibe, the music, the directing was wonderful. Can't wait for season's 3 side story.

Mythic Quest: A Dark Quiet Death (2020)
Season 1, Episode 5

Magic out of nowhere
11 March 2022
What a great concept.

Here we have a light TV Show for nerds with no real purpose besides being funny and serve as simple entertaining. No need to spend energy to follow the plot. No need to intellectualize the story or charters. No need to spend time actually paying attention to the nuances of the writing.

This is a show that you appreciate after a hard day at work with you kids and friends. And i like shows like this. They serve a purpose. They are like fell good food.

And yet, out of absolutely nowhere, we get this episode. A story line completely unrelated with the show's timeline, filled with emotion and meaning. A love story that involves a love at first sight moment entangled with the love for the creation that united 2 people.

A bitter sweet story that completely shatters the feel of the show and got your feels going unexpectedly.

I never saw such concept before on TV Shows. Side stories are a thing but having them so removed from the world of the show is not normal. It was a huge risk but it paid off.

In fact, some of the best things in life happen because they were unexpected. You cannot fake surprise genuine curiosity.

This episode was a gem within a simple banal TV Show to the point i felt the need to log in and congratulate this entire thing.

Other shows should follow this idea. It was refreshing.

Dragon Ball Z Kai (2009–2015)
10/10
The DBZ series as they should have been from the start!
27 April 2015
I am what you may call a Dragon Ball person.

I started to watch the original series back in the late 80's when they were being aired in France before most other countries besides Japan itself.

I was done with the all thing when it wasn't even being aired in the US.

I watched it again and again and again along the years as well as all the movies and specials that exist.

In fact, Dragonball was part of my youth and the benchmark for all animations afterwards.

So, when i learned about Kai and the fact that they were cutting stuff off and leaving a lot of the fillers in th trash can i had a "purist" reaction and refused to watch it as i considered that the original work should be preserved intact in my mind.

Nevertheless, with the appearance of the new movie Revival of F, i decided to give it a try as it was the only Dragonball material i had never seen.

Well, i must say that this is a lot better than the original.

Even if some fillers were fun and interesting, i agree that the pace of the Manga was much more proper for a Shounen anime of this kind. This Kai version shows this perfectly.

This new version is action packed like it should have been and settles many stuff like plot holes and other inconsistencies created by the original Z series by the fillers.

These fillers were being made up out of the manga because at the time, Akira Toriyama was actually late in the manga comparing to the anime. This show was so popular that the animation was ahead of the ink and they had to invent stuff and exaggerate the time of power ups and stare contests between fighters.

The Kai version is so much better, I recommend everyone to see it and forget about the original because, well, a good 1/4 of it is made up material without story validity.

Dragonball seems to be more alive than never with Kai reaching the end of the series and new movies of legit material being produced by Toriyama.

It's staggering to see myself, 25 years after the first Dragonball episodes i saw as a kid, still trembling of joy at the sight of new Dragonball material.

To me, this is undeniably the greatest anime franchise that ever existed.

Feeling frustrated right now!
18 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The difference between an OK movie and a good or even very good one is sometimes very simple to achieve. It also works the other way around as a good thing can be ravaged by an incomprehensible mistake or weird decision.

That's totally the case with this movie. The acting is very good, the movie is made for an adult audience that rather prefers psychological and emotional horror than a gore fest that is usually applied because it catches the audience easier (or some of it).

The suspense and the question marks really let you hooked. I personally went through the movie without checking my phone or finding myself thinking about other stuff.

This only aggravated me because, the ending, is well... Is, as i said before, incomprehensible. It's almost a lack of respect towards the audience that paid and waisted 80 minutes of their lives to see a movie that culminates into that.

And by that i mean, nothing.

I rate it 6 out of 10 because i like everything else. It could have been easily a 8 but, for some reason, the writers found it smart to finish this off like that.

Maybe they were out of ideas or too lazy to fit it all together. Who knows? But honestly, even i can write horror movies with no ending. It's like cooking with no seasoning.

Attack on Titan (2013–2023)
10/10
One for the ages!
31 May 2014
I had heard a lot of great things about Attack On Titan for quite a while but, because i am now an older person, i didn't rush towards it like i would have done in the past. Also, most animes that made a fuss recently were a disappointment to my more matured character.

Anyway, i stumbled on to it some way and i decided to watch it and find out why my younger cousins were freaking out about this. Well, i have to say that this is a master piece.

This one of these shows that make it impossible to turn the TV off. You always want more and more. The plot is great, the animations are wonderful, characters are complex and spot on. I will even say that this anime goes straight to my top 5 all time and it's definitely the best i have seen since Death Note.

The only thing that i dislike about animes like that is... the fact that they come to and end and then you have to wait and pray the lord for whomever is responsible to decide about the realization of a sequel as soon as possible.

When a TV Show should me mandatory.
29 April 2014
What can i say about this remake of an already epic TV/Documentary show? If it is not enough that we are talking about an upgrade of something that was brilliant by itself, it had to be done by one of the greatest communicators of the scientific world; Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson!

Everything about these series is brilliant. To watch the universe at work in HD tanks to wonderful animations, plus the deep and mysterious voice of Dr. Tyson, is a real experience.

Plus, the science behind it as well as the learning experience is something really worth of anyones time. When people talk about having fun while learning this is the best example.

This TV Show should be MANDATORY for everyone. There is something almost mystical about it. The perspective that we get from it about our reality is something that keeps e wondering all day long after the episode.

I would like to thank Dr. Tyson and all the people involved for this piece of Scientific Cinematography! I never saw learning, fun, science and even life lessons, fused together this well before!

A face that will take you over!
2 January 2014
The success of this film starts with the casting decisions. Both actress are wonderful and perfect for the characters but Adele's actress (Adèle Exarchopoulos)is something out of this world.

The director of this movie will spend most of the times making close ups of her facial expression. And i am glad he did so. She is so expressible with her face that, most of the times, she does not even need to talk. The mix of cute "girl next door" innocence and honesty in her looks will take you over and make you literally feel everything that she is feeling.

She was a revelation.

Now, the plot behind it all is not something new. There a e a number of movies talking about the teenage confusion with the discovery of their sexuality. But this one is directed in such a way that will actually make you care and understand.

As i said, most of it, in my opinion, is about Adele's phenomenal expressibility. Also i really like that they took their time with the movie. Almost 3 hours is a rare thing nowadays and some don't appreciate it. In my opinion so many movies could have been masterpieces if not chunked into a 90 minute standard that don't allow the history to settle and feelings towards the characters to be developed by the viewers.

This movie is also very honest. The dialogues between the teenagers are genuine. The reactions, slang and values they have are spot on (i know, i grew up in France). This unlike Hollywood movies where, depending of the movie genre, teenagers look to stupid and immature or overly deep for their age.

The sex scenes are almost explicit. At some moments i was unsure about them. Were they faked or real? I couldn't tell. But this is not really important. They are a vital part of the history and the ferocity applied on them are essential to understand the relief and satisfaction that Adele finally found.

The whole film would be worth watching only because of Exarchopoulos cuteness and innocence masterfully used to reveal the essence of the plot. But then we have many more layers that make this history special.

I left the theatre feeling things i didn't felt since i was a teenager. This little pinch in your hearth that you have after a special moment with the correct person, the excitation of a probable love, or the painfully, sometimes tragically pleasant sensation of let-down and nostalgia with whom life strikes you down times to times.

I felt all that watching this movie and i even staid inebriated with it a couple of days afterwards.

This is a French masterpiece with 2 spectacular actresses and 1 face for the ages. Gay, Lesbian or Straight, it does not matter. Watch it. As a Straight man who sometime feel that 2 beautiful lesbians together is a waist (it's my envious side taking over), i ended up rooting for Adele and Emma.

I still am!

Something really different.
30 December 2013
Because of the seemingly decline of cinema creativity, i am nowadays tempted to highly rate any movie that shows up with a different concept, plot, history or whatever.

I am so fed up with the repeating and predictable tons of films out each year that i was indeed very pleased with this one.

The plot is brilliant and something new and exciting. I know that many will say that there are several huge problems with it. Acting is average at best and directing extremely poor if we take in account what could have been.

Anyway, if you want something fresh this is it. This script could and should have been picked by a larger company with an higher budget. It could have been easily a box office scifi movie but, instead, became an almost obscure mix between an good base story and a bad teenage college movie.

Boobs included.

Exceeded expectations
18 September 2013
After having seen so many DBZ movies i wasn't expecting much out of it.

Nevertheless, as an adult hardcore fan of the Anime than rocked my youth, i feel compelled to watch every single one.

And i am glad that i did.

Most of previous movies didn't made a lot of sense to me. My main problem was in the fact that chronologically things didn't had up or where confusing. And this only made think that they were making movies just to profit of it.

Regardless of that, this time, i felt the history well placed and full of meaning. Some light facts were also revealed from older Sayan history.

The plot was indeed interesting and was not only about some lost Sayan coming to earth looking for a fight.

I used to criticize the pace of the history on other movies. They usually go to fast and we are often taken from peace time to world destruction warning in 5 minutes.

This time, even if the length of the movie does not allow a deeper build to the history, the transition a lot more smooth.

I'll give it a 9 because is probably the best movie ever from the DBZ saga. I only disliked the fact that, like almost every sequel from any genre, they felt compelled to give us a glimpse of almost every character in DBZ saga.

Even the most irrelevant living being had to show up. In my opinion this is utter useless and transforms a legit story in some kind of parody.

Anyway, it's definitely a great addition for DBZ fans. If you are too young to have followed DB or have been living in Jupiter's moon for the last 20 years and do not know the saga, this is not for you.

Otherwise enjoy the show!!

A special genre of movie!
11 December 2012
Let's be serious for a moment.

This is not a real movie or a real trilogy. Hell, these are not even real actors. The 1st "movie" of the trilogy was an amateur work closer from a joke between friends than a real project.

The only reason a give it 6 stars and not 0 is because many Portuguese people are fans of this absolutely unpretentious kind of cinema. A group of friends acting ridiculously, swearing even more than real country people would and exaggerating all the clichés that you can think of about low life Portuguese's.

If you are Portuguese and watch this movie just to have fun and laugh about how ridiculous this thing is, you can actually have a good time. If you hope to see a real movie, one with a plot, actors and some degree of professionalism, you'll be shocked and leave the theater 10 minutes in the story.

I will repeat once again. This is not a real movie. This started has an amateur comical work that found success among some parts of Portuguese society because of how ridiculous and dumb everything in it is. The difference between part 1 and part 2 just resides in better editing (in a decade, everyone seems now able to edit) better cinematography and the inclusion of some popular comedians that, if you're not Portuguese, will never know or even understand the style.

As i said, 6 over 10 stars because of the unpretentious way that these guys created this trilogy.

Blood and Heart
4 August 2012
I have been seeing animes since ever. I saw it all and it is an art form that is underrated by most of the adult world.

This anime is truly remarkable and, when comparing his IMDb rating to other animes, one can only think that something is wrong with the world.

The beauty of this history resides in the deep feelings that you get from it. Despite the insane amount of physical violence (seriously, you cant create anything more violent than ripping apart armies, and even children, an leave them shredded in a river of blood), what will mark you the most is the emotional one.

Even if some of the main characters are mass murderers deign form the devil himself, you cannot stop yourself to feel sorry for them and, sometimes, understand them.

The quantity of blood is matched by the amount of nudity. But don't get me wrong, it's not a provocative nudity. It's the best way to present the characters in an innocent form. Even if they are vicious, they are also victims.

Resuming, this is an anime that will seriously shake you. If you want a series that will turn you into an addict and that will make you think of it long before you stopped watching, this is it.

YOU WILL FALL FOR A CRUEL MURDERER.

I don't rate it 10/10 because i think that the anime series should have a 2nd part just like the Manga. The last episode let you hanging a bit but they decided to not continue the animation.

It's OK anyway because the manga is available and you can keep reading the original history.

Dragon Ball Z (1996–2003)
The most influential anime in history
15 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Opinions are all subjective and can't be judge by anyone... Well.. except by FACTS and Facts only.

And the fact is that i was lucky enough to follow these series in 3 different countries and, in all of them, the phenomenon of popularity of this show was something unmatched.

This show was regularly on air for about 10 years and, from the first series, to the end, the evolution of the anime was spectacular. And i am not talking about the story and characters but about the style of drawing and animation. The show was so long and so successful that, while it started a regular anime from the late 19's, it ended as a real eye candy.

It's hard to resume the magnitude of DBZ for anime fans. This show created a legion of fans within several generations. Whether you are 16 or +30, chances are you got hooked at some point by it.

I even remember that college students was skipping classes massively to follow the key episodes of the Buboo saga! It's pretty clear that no other anime had such a impact on people.

DBZ was a mixes of comedy, drama, heroism, cruelty, friendship, betrayal, virtues and weaknesses. And yes. At least in the Japanese and European versions, we can say that it was something erotic as the old master was clearly a pervert and sexiness of some woman characters where explored in a comical / erotic way.

This was an inspiring show. One of a kind. Even if new shows, more refined, elaborated and culturally advanced have been coming out (like Dark Note for instance), no other will pin point the perfect balance between what it takes to create a master piece.

Millions grew up with the DB saga and Goku, being probably one of the most powerful anime heroes ever, is also the greatest character among them.

I am in shock!!
14 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I am in shock!

This movie is horrible. It was not a surprise because everyone told me so. Despite that, i rented a copy and waisted 70 minutes of my life. The directors of the movie and people who hire them should be baned from the industry. They didn't realize or care that Dragon Ball was, during more than a decade, the most successful anime. More than that, it is the most successful anime EVER! Here in Europe the legion of fans of this anime is simple to calculate. Just count how many people there is from 15 years old until 30. And then, a lot of older adults and even kids that are now discovering the great world of Dragon Ball.

This movie had such potential and freedom in terms of plot, special effects, wardrobe and emotion that this result can be considered the biggest flop in cinema history. They should have taken their times like they did with Avatar. A great opportunity deserves a great effort.

I guess that a few con mans just wanted to make a quick profit from fans all over the world and ended up ruining it for everybody. Despite all of that i will not criticize the actors. I feel sorry for them. They could do nothing with such bad orientation.

I also hope to see someday a real movie of DB!

Borat (2006)
10/10
A all new kind of comedy!
17 December 2006
I think that the persons who have low rated this film are just as stuck up than the idiots that Borat interview during the film. In fact, this movie is a brand new kind of comedy and, i am deeply surprised, to see that people are criticizing Sacha Cohen as being offensive against Jews when he actually IS Jew! Anyway, people only can love the movie cause everything inside is kind of REAL.. i am not sure that in some occasions the reports weren't fixed at some level but its obvious that the great majority is 100% genuine.

I approve this movie and i have rated it 10 *. I usually HATE US comedies and i despise the kind of Jim Carey movies that fill theater's because is simply STUPID and boring. I gave up trying to laugh on theaters for some years now but, when i started to see the movie, i could contain myself.

The character BORAT is deeply offensive, racist, incestuous etc. but he does it with such a naturally that the common person will not be too much hurt with the things he say.

I ensure you that this movie is the first of his kind so you cannot loose the opportunity to see him. A great piece of satire on American Society and a opportunity to look at the cultural differences between the people of the same country!
