Difficult subject... Well delivered
7 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe because I have epilepsy,I might have a biased view!! I think the film was excellent;well written, extremely well acted and original. Didn't get as much attention as it should, but a film about epilepsy never would, as few have any understanding of it, ask a doctor! Epilepsy scares people, but it is not as scary as having it; that is why the film is great. If you listen closely and read between the lines you'll pick up on the clues and the body language that Lilly shows, it is difficult to show side effects of medication on film, but they got them across as best they could. The story built around Lilly was involving, dark, funny, sad, sometimes fatalistic, but never without hope. Really really enjoyed it.

Although Alan Moore, who wrote the novel, hated the representation of his character as he felt it didn't portray the true meaning of his vigilante hero, it has heart and a meaning which stays with you. It was written during Thatchers' Britain, where the establishment was seen as taking away some of the rights and freedoms of the common people and turning cities into post industrial wasteland of tower blocks and social decay. V for Vendetta as a movie is a stylised portrayal of a working class hero. It is an important film in today's society as it warns us of the fact that chipping away at rights ultimately means democratic processes cease to exist. Hugo Weaving as V is outstanding, (second choice after James Purefoy who couldn't act and wear the mask), his performance of the opening speech sets the tone of the whole movie. Natalie Portman is Natalie Portman as always, and although doesn't bring anything extra to her the role, her performance is adequate enough not to detract from the film. Stephen Rae, the master of underplay, is brilliant as Detective Finch who adds mood and atmosphere to every scene he is in. I have seen most graphic novel films, and none of them seem to have anything to tell us about the world we live in, apart from the latest CGI techniques. V for Vendetta is different it is story with a start, middle, end and a moral, if you have not seen it,which I doubt, then please do, sure you will thoroughly enjoy it.

Bon Bon!!!!!!!!!!

Just finished watching the last episode of Series 1. Last time I was this gripped was in the 90's with Twin Peaks, not usually a TV fan unless something out of the ordinary is on. It takes it slow, gives you red herrings, plays down major plot parts, builds up tension, then BANG, you can't wait till next time. It is set in a small French town, where 35 years previous a dam broke causing many deaths, but "they will have their revenge". Don't want to give too much away, so will just tell you that every part of each characters life is given to you in fine detail, some things will make sense while bits of the plot are left open. However it flows like a full string orchestra playing the Blue Danube, and on that er,note, the music by Mogwai only makes it more enjoyable. The acting is terrific, characters believable, storyline as tight as a ducks hole, I cannot think of one thing to gripe about, which is unusual! Series 2 is on next year, need to keep my diary open. Unmissable, off to buy the series one box-set!

Good Bad but mainly Ugly

Couldn't see film on TV so rented it from Film4OD. The black and white cinematics was excellent, the performances on the whole were excellent, the plot seemed to have been created when the writers were high on mushy tea. Four men head to the alehouse after deserting a Civil War battle,on their way they come across mushrooms and a rope, there the plot ends and total insanity sets in, both in the movie and the directors chair. The scenes that were most memorable were in the trailer, which most movies do this as you know, however there are plenty more of them in most movies. This film was very thin on scenes that would stay with you. Someone screaming in a tent when neither you nor the director knows what is happening to him is certainly memorable for lack of storyline.

I am waiting for the Directors Cut where it is all made clear, we get into the tent, find out who O'Neill really is and just what exactly this whole mushy magic lunacy is all about., It was worth my 3 pounds to see, however I think that the only way this film was ever going to make any impact at all, was to release it in the way they did.
