A Perfect movie - Must watch!
29 September 2020
I very rarely watch a movie that draws my complete attention, and this movie certainly did that. I would even go as to say that it's perfect! It has every element a film should contain, and more! All I can say is that if you haven't seen this yet - it's a must watch and not to be missed.

The Spy (2019)
10/10
An excellent performance by Sacha
9 July 2020
Like with many Comedy actors; such as the late Robin Williams, and Tom Hanks in particular, I can see Sacha Baron Cohen swiftly moving into the serious role scene with great ease and with a natural flare. It is of no secret that he has proven himself as a very reliable and convincing actor, especially a man of his intelligence and educational background (University of Cambridge) if I may add. I see Sacha enhancing his acceptance of more serious roles and perhaps even winning an Oscar award for his future works if The Spy is anything to go by. His performance here was perfect, convincing and extremely professional. This is a series that should not be missed solely based on his performance along, and I say this with no bias (being a British born Turkish Cypriot). Well done Sacha, you make us British proud.

Gotti (2018)
10/10
An excellent performance by Travolta and Cast!
6 July 2018
I have given this an outstanding rate of 10 due to two fundamental reasons. Firstly, that John Travolta played the part perfectly, and secondly that the film shows a more realistic, raw and direct type of performance as opposed to the Classical Godfather with all the music and strings attached. Travolta not only portrayed Gotti's strong, masculine and direct element of his well known personality, but also managed to neatly, and professionally, show some expression and realism regarding to Gotti's fears and sensitivities; especially the part involving the death of his younger son and his fears for his eldest son. I liked the film very much indeed as there wasn't a dull moment, and was well written. We all knew that Travolta was the perfect man for the role due to his years of acting experience and in playing a host of different personalities, but you also can't beat his charisma and grace to this part. This is a definitely thumbs-up from me and I would highly recommend that you sit back and watch this film as an accurate portrayal, by a superb actor, of the real Gotti he was - and not glamoured for the sake of cinema and viewer votes only. Only Travolta could have done it in my eyes. Well done!

Unfair reviews on a decent film about Bruce Lee
26 February 2018
I was shocked to read some of the unfair reviews about this film and wonder if those individuals actually knew anything about Bruce Lee (the character), or even the struggles he faced in bringing Kung Fu to America, and the world for that matter. In my view, the characters in the film were well represented. People are quick to forget that Bruce Lee was rather cocky, super confident, and even more relative, open to change - hence why he learnt from the mistakes of his first encounter with Wong Jack Man and then felt compelled to re-evaluate his own style and incorporate other fighting techniques to form what we now know as "Jeet Kwon Do", or even "MMA" as people of today like to call it. The film, and the characters whom played both Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man, were spot on. The fighting scenes, build up and flow of the film was, in my view, superb and highly enjoyable. However, what I found even more rewarding was the portrayal of Bruce Lee's fears and the eventual change the character displayed after his fight with Shaolin Master Wong Jack Man, as opposed to the Jason Scott Lee's version back in the 1990s, which was rather limited. I liked the part after the fight when Bruce Lee had his hand in ice-water admitting how the Shaolin master could have broken his (Bruce Lee's) neck if he wanted to and how Bruce Lee felt that the fight took too long. Another particular aspect on the same scene was how it portrayed how Bruce Lee was Learning his opponent's style while engaging in this battle to eventually counter the Shaolin Master and reverse his advantage, eventually making him respect how adaptable and experience Bruce Lee was at the end of the first fight scene. I liked this film as it covered many unanswered questions, was extremely enjoyable to watch and was played very well by all characters. Those who were waiting for a "Fist of Fury" or "Enter the dragon" type of film should realise that this film was not intended to follow that type of story, but to answer some deep questions about Bruce Lee's real experience, pressures and concerns in getting to the point of when he eventually man "Enter the dragon". I thoroughly liked this film and would love to see a sequel!

Sandy Wexler (2017)

A pleasant surprise!
10 May 2017
In a film I tend to look for a combination of factors, one of which being originality and good acting. This took me by surprise as, although it started out as almost seeming like a funny Adam Sandler type of move with silly elements, I started to enjoy it when Adam's character started to develop and take a more sentimentle and more in depth aspect. I enjoyed this movie, even though it wasn't one of Adam's best performances, but enjoyable nevertheless and entertaining with a little twist!

I liked this film
10 May 2017
I enjoyed this film, where Adam Sandler gave a good Robin Williams type serious role performance that showed off some of his talented acting abilities. I would love to see Adam Sandler play in a few more serious type of roles, where I would even say that he would very pleasantly surprise the Oscars panel if offered a good role similarly to what Tom Hanks did in Philedelphia! Keep up the good work Adam!

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
10/10
Another Excellent film by the great Mel Gibson!
10 May 2017
I was completely blown away by this movie, but quite frankly I am not surprised as Mel Gibson has produced some amazing films in recent years. The acting was sensational, a very well acted depiction of the true events concerning the Hacksaw campaign. Andrew Garfield played this role so seamlessly that I almost forgot he had played in the Amazing Spiderman only a few years ago. It's clear that his credentials as a very diverse actor is amongst the best young actors on the big screen. Vince Vaughan and the other around him should also be commended for such great performances. I was pleasantly surprised. I would strongly recommend anyone watching this film. Well done to all involved!

A Great film!
26 January 2015
A biopic of Stephen Hawking, in my opinion, was always bound to be of good quality due to his amazing achievements in the evolution of science. This film, from it's inception, just pulled me in. The way in which the characters were professionally played, its touching on 1963 Cambridge, and its overall style was a real pleasure to witness. What firmly sat my bottom to the seat though was how the film makers made the film believable in almost all aspects of the movie; its characters, theme, language, education, success and portrayal of Stephen's failures, It felt as if each stage of the film was its own mini-series gradually developing into one complete element of great film making. Well Done!

Fatherland (1994 TV Movie)
4/10
Good acting, but a little unrealistic!
26 January 2015
I chose to eventually give this "movie" a 4/10 as, and although it did touch upon some very interesting themes and thought the acting was very good, I have to be honest and say that the film generally felt that it needed a little more money thrown into it!

For instance, I am sure the Nazi uniform would have been changed twenty years after WW2, technology in "1964" Nazi Germany would surely have taken a more Modern turn as opposed to it being stuck in the 1942 era, and I am sure the former Nazi leaders would have been replaced or at least their NAZI Chants abolished.

In my view, the film failed to ultimately grasp the everyday person/people feel of this new Germany, or adapt and show the viewer the social aspects of 1964 Post-War Germany. It's almost as if the film maker thought that Germany would not have dramatically changed twenty years after the war, where in fact I am certain that Germany would have done its utmost to not have any memories or indicators of its ultra-nationalistic past.

Perhaps I am seeing this from another angle, but the Germans here are seen as a little backward. I am sure in reality it would have been the (complete) opposite in terms of a booming industry, technological advancement and even a new EU platform/cooperation. The film, therefore, appeared to miss a great deal of scope. It's central theme of pushing along this dark image and assuming that all its people were deeply brain-washed with utlra nationalism, failed to identify the true intelligence of what the Germans would have gained in this golden opportunity (after winning such a war!).

In conclusion, by 1964, I am sure Germany would have moved things along much differently to what this film shows, more intelligently than what we may have thought! Perhaps, even, similarly to our current EU with Germany at the Top and the rest depending on its Economic and Political advancements! Looks like Germany was always destined to be the leader of the EU regardless of whether they had won or lost the war, changed or adapted a new name or even changed their geo-political and social wishes!

Jobs (2013)
10/10
An excellent portrayal of JOBS by Ashton Kutcher
16 November 2014
Before I start, be advised that I am not an Apple fan. I use an Android Samsung S4 mobile and have only ever used the Apple's iPod Gen 4 for music. Now I will start with my film review of "Jobs". I promised myself that I would watch this film with an open mind, judging both its quality of acting and its historical aspects without bias, where I must confess that I was pleasantly surprised. I always new that Ashton Kutcher was a good actor ever since his performance in the film the "Butterfly effect" (and a few more), but must credit this film for choosing him as representing Steve Jobs. He certainly was spot on. i say that because over the many years of attending Computer exhibitions and and personally meeting Steve Jobs, Ashton's portrayal was frighteningly perfect! It wasn't just the way he captured the way Steve walked or talked, but also his intricate mannerism from the mid 1970s to when he became CEO many decades later. As for the film, I must credit the production team for getting the changing mood and themes throughout the decades spot on, which was truly refreshing to the eyes to not have to criticise in this type of film that chronologised a great person's life achievement. On a final note, and believe me when I say I could write pages detailing positive elements in this film, I found it disheartening to read the negative comments for this review whom fail to fully explain why they thought the film wasn't as good as they had anticipated. If you ask for my opinion, I thought this film was a must see for Apple fans, but perhaps more for none Apple fans in order to appreciate exactly how hard it personally must have been for Steve Jobs to have arrived to the evolution of the iPad, iPhone and iPod era.

An excellent film, Well casted, directed and made!
5 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I have given this a strong 10/10 for a number of reason that should not be taken lightly. Firstly, the cast is seriously second to none. Kivanc and Mert really excelled in their rolls showing a deep devotion to their characters which were played fluently. People who have seen Kivanc in "Aski-Memnu" and "Kuzey and Guney" will no doubt realise how much of a personal sacrifice he must have made in loosing so much weight and preparation for this role, while also see a huge change in his mannerism, style and subtle performance. As for Mert, all I can say is that he has shown an equal level of performance with a beautifully played companion throughout the complete film. The film itself is certainly an original, with a few surprising twists and a sense of glamour, style and historical value to it. This is one of those Turkish films I wish the Oscars and the Cannes Film festival should have taken very seriously as a candidate for the Turkish entry as opposed to choosing films from Turkey that are always centred against the state!

RED 2 (2013)

Very entertaining!
28 November 2013
My eldest son and I loved this movie as its Bruce Willis and John Malkovich teamed up at their best. Bruce and John truly shine in this movie showing how much of a funny, unstable, hilarious and humorously team they are. Bruce Willis is one of those actors whom can pull off both very funny and serious roles without having to shift too far to the left or right. His vast experience as an actor from those days in "Moonlighting" to the "Sixth Sense" shows just how dynamic his role-playing can be. In this film, he shows in pure "Willis" style how to make you laugh, giggle and flinch in one movie. The cast is well picked, action scenes as an ex-Black Ops soldier with all the fancy moves shows how well Bruce can pull off such roles with ease and flare!

Man of Steel (2013)
7/10
A very good come back!
28 November 2013
I have given this a strong 7/10 as, although it ticked all the boxes in terms of action and casting, it could have done with a bit more of that old Christopher Reeves charisma and charm to complete the film - but I am guessing that will be in the next film as he becomes Clarke Kent at the end! I blame the director for wanting more action and not the lead character. Regardless, Henry Cavil is definitely the right man for the job. He not only looks like the former 1978 Superman star, but is a very good actor too! His American Ascent over his native British ascent is almost unnoticeable, while he certainly brought in a new, real dimension to the role. I would definitely put this at the top of my action/superhero films and hop that the lead character remains for many more sequels to come!

Conquest 1453 (2012)
9/10
Good film, but would have preferred a less religious aspect!
28 November 2013
This is truly a remarkable bit of film making, particularly the special effects, acting and panoramic scenery. The screenplay too was outstanding, Hollywood should seriously take into consideration the new up and coming Turkish directors and their big ideas in both its major films and Soups in today's Turkey – much has changed since those years in the 1970s. In saying all that and getting them off my chest, now for the real review. Everyone knows how powerful the Ottoman Empire was and that it conquered Istanbul, which is why I didn't really enjoy the parts with the reference to religion in battle, particularly on the battlefield itself – why was that included more than once? The film could have been better laid out in terms of explaining the military techniques the Ottomans used on the battlefield itself, Mehmet's passion for the Arts of the Western world and how he thought hard to preserve the new conquered city's heritage by naming it "Istanbul" which means "The City" in Byzantium language – which many people do not know. Mehmet also had more than a few wives and not just only one, and from various backgrounds including a Greek wife. Mehmet was definitely a very interesting person in real life and had more to him apart form only wanting to conquer Constantinople.

After Earth (2013)
8/10
A good film without the typical Hollywood style ending!
21 September 2013
I have given this film rated lower by others a strong 8 out of 10 as the film exposes two very positive factors in filming. The first is that Will Smith and his son can pull off any project with a great deal of passion, and secondly because the film's idea and plot was original. Yes, the film could of have done with a TopGun or Independence Day type of ending if that sort of thing is good for you, but I believe the moments leading to the ending were self explanatory. In addition, I would also like to highlight one very unique feature of this film that appears to be missing from many of today's "blockbuster" movies - it has the likable factor, it's exciting and it depicts a sense of realism even if it is science fiction. Well done Will and Jaden, a good film as usual.
