Fate: The Winx Saga (2021–2022)
It was great

Fate: The Winx Saga contains a perfect mix of brand new stories as well as the old ones already known by the fans of the original animated series this show is based off.

As a fan of the original series for more than 10 years, I was so excited for this. I'm not going to lie, just like most of the people, I was skeptical. But after watching all of the 6 episodes, I really loved and enjoyed the show.

Just like the original show's early days, Fate follows Bloom as she tries to discover who she is. Apparently, she is one of the most powerful fairies ever who was kidnapped by some kind of evil witches who wanted to use her magic (which is very similar to what happened in the original). Together with Bloom, we learn about this whole new magical word that resembles the Magical Dimension we knew in the Winx but with a new, modern twist. Fate really created this big magical word with so many stories, destines, rivalries and fights for power and these six episodes weren't enough to explore all of it. There's more than enough material for a couple of more seasons with hopefully more episodes.

When it comes to characters, I can't complain. The only thing I kind of missed was the best friends vibe which the original Winx Club was known for. The animated series put so much emphasis on friendship and fighting together, but Fate kind of fell short of that. Yes, they all came together at the end, but I didn't feel them being close as they were in the original. Especially because Stella was kind of estranged from the group for the most of it. She was given a fairly different storyline which made her seem cold and unkind - a total opposite of the original Stella. It took me time to get to like her, but she did progress over the show and join the group which was great. I loved the new girl, Terra, who was quirky and sweet and she was the one to light up the moment. We didn't get to learn much about Aisha but her friendship with Bloom was lovely, something I don't remember we got a lot of in the original. Musa has the best romance storyline and her emotional side really shone through. I don't want to make this too long and go through all of the other characters, but everyone seemed to be written well and have a purpose on the show.

All in all, it was really worth watching. Yes, it's not exactly the Winx we grew up with. But it's a good TV show, as I sad - a perfect mix of something new and something old. After so many years, it was amazing to see my favorite childhood characters come to life. I really hope to see more episodes in the future.
