Initially the film is slow and it's not clear where it is heading as there are so many abrupt 'tableaux' transitions. Also it takes a while to accept the casting of Keira Knightley as Colette though it does make sense in the end: in part through the appreciation of her gutsy performance. Colette herself would have appreciated and been flattered. There are probably some inaccuracies in the script and some adaption if the timeline but if it adds to the storytelling it is fine.
