Was so looking forward to some great nostalgic movie, but oh boy was I mistaken
The story was rather bad, it very loosely follows the first book, but changed in such a way it just doesn't feel like the books I love. Alright they change it up by making the kid next door (think he originally was called Cor) female, don't mind that. But why is she an orphan, and then also her guardian has to die? Like why? Just terrible terrible writing.
The acting is pretty bad, especially the twins themselves. But also pretty much every other actor is just bad.
More then likely some of that is to blame on the bad director.
And then the biggest problem for me the casting. Not a single character is cast good, (alright "veldwachter Zwart" was cast decent). The twins are terrible, they just don't come across as the lovable naughty twins with a golden hearth from the books. Father Klinkhamer is the worst, he is supposed to be a blacksmith? He looks like a figure skater. Gerben is supposed to be a farmhand in his early twenties, not a grandfather. Esther is like a 16 year old girl pretending to be 11? Really?
Al in al, very disappointed by this movie.
