Pretty unique season
FinisherDude4 January 2021
This show isn't your standard Kamen Rider season, the ideas used in the show (for the first half at least) has been well executed. The second half of the season however... it's pretty terrible. The second half's story was crumbling, it was hard for me to watch to be honest because it feels like they put less effort than at the beginning ever since they're staff replacement. Let's pretend the second half didn't exist, the first half is pretty good and I enjoyed it a lot. The story from the first half was pretty strong, I like the characters as well, good score and some pretty good action. If the second was as good as the first, I would've bumped it to a 9 but a 8.0 would do. Overall, it's not a bad show, I think they did well on trying to make it different and I appreciate that

Unique, but not for Kamen Rider otaku

Warning: Spoilers
Wow, I have to say this. Masked Rider Hibiki is a VERY unique Japanese superhero show. Each episode follows a rhythm and events are played like the parts of a song, each part separated by a short flash of kanji. And the battles, they too break regular Japanese superhero convention, as they are well choreographed, instead of the usual tossing around of our heroes for awhile until their one hit kill of the enemy.

If you do a search of the show elsewhere, you will learn that the story is pretty basic, Takeshi, a covert organization, sends its demon agents to fight monsters that threaten humanity around Japan. However the true story is one of growth, as the main character, Asumu, learns what life is about and how to be a man.

Some Kamen Rider fans hate this show because it's different. As transformation poses, and the profilic "RIDER KICK!" are omitted. But non fans should find Hibiki a nice change of pace from the usual television program.

If nothing else, the music.

I saw the first few episodes of Hibiki and was very impressed. I love the opening theme to it. I've been trying to find it but have been thus far, unsuccessful. It's very different from any Kamen series I've seen thus far. The one I saw before this one was Faiz and that was more heavy metal than anything. Which was good, because the show had a heavy metal feel to it. But with Hibiki, the traditional Japanese instruments really added a very new touch. The fight scenes are cool. I like the fact that he finishes off with a drum solo. The only thing I really didn't get was the fact that he's referred to as an Oni. I get what an Oni is, but where does it fit in the title? That aside, this is one I will definitely keep watching and I suggest it to anyone.

One of the most oddball motifs in the franchise...oh yeah...I prefer musical notes!!!
pinoyartist991 January 2006
If Kamen Rider Ryuki is the "black sheep" of the franchise, I can honestly say that Kamen Rider Hibiki is the "screwball" of all riders (not including Saban's "hackjob" of Black RX). Pretty much the story is about a group of "Oni" (although they have Rider in its title) hunt monsters throughout Japan called Makamou which consist of a male and female duo and their parent, which is a usually a giant monster, most of the time anyway. Story is a bit simplistic, not to mention flat. However, the character interaction is pretty good, balancing the humor and seriousness in some of them. However, because of the pattern the past few Rider series motif (such as Faiz using Greek Letters and Blade using Card Suits, the next expected thing would be musical notes). The instrument motif came as a big surprise. More so is that when you see the monsters being vanquished by musical instruments, you kind of feel sorry for them. I mean Death by Musical Instrument is a bit wrong.
