An acceptable, but ultimately pointless film.
killbill50013 March 2008
'The Fox and the Hound 2' is possibly the worst Disney sequel I've ever seen, seeing as it bears absolutely no resemblance to the original, whatsoever. It's as if the only thing they took from the original was the characters (and clearly left 'Big Mama' behind).

Having said that, I actually don't mind it that much. It's pretty fun, exciting, adventurous, and entertaining for a measly Direct-to-DVD sequel.

Now, on to the animation. While it's easily more visually pleasing than the original, this one's too....cartoony in comparison to the original. Even if the animation wasn't perfect in the original, The characters were extremely detailed there. In this film, they seem to have just grabbed the characters, made them cartoony for the kids, and placed them in this non-stop thrill-ride. But there's some beautiful use of bright colours in this film, which does look fantastic.

While Disney sequels are obviously, and automatically going to be inferior to the originals by default, I think this was a pretty good effort, if not way too child-based.

Cute, but not needed
Smells_Like_Cheese15 September 2007
The Fox and the Hound is a quiet classic of Disney's, I highly recommend it, it was an extremely sweet story and a personal favorite of mine. So I was curious what was with the sequel, if they just prolonged the story or was it new characters? I wasn't too sure if this was a prequel or a re-make of the first film. Because of the way the story was in the first film, this didn't make much sense. I wasn't sure if it was just an added story, if it was, it was a bit silly. While the story and characters were cute, don't get me wrong, it's perfect for the kids, it just didn't do anything for me since I'm such a fan of the first film. I just feel like they shouldn't have ruined the story, the ending to the first film was perfect, we didn't need an additional story. But it wasn't bad for the kids, it's just a typical Disney sequel.

Todd and Chopper are back as young kids, they are having their typical play dates, but Chopper is feeling a bit down since he doesn't feel that he doesn't have any special talents. After a failed attempt at trying to hunt, Chopper's master leaves him home when he takes Chief to the fair for the howling and hunting contest. Todd takes Chopper to the fair anyways to cheer him up, and they end up meeting a stray dog singing group with wants Chopper to join due to his surprising pleasant voice. Todd gets left out, but the singer that got kicked out of the band because of Chopper, Dixie, she has a few tricks up her sleeve and wants back. Todd in the mean time just wants his best friend back.

The Fox and the Hound 2 is a better Disney sequel than most, I admit. But like I said it just wasn't needed, I was kinda disappointed in seeing the computer animation, you could tell when it wasn't hand drawn. The additional characters were cute, but they didn't do anything for me personally. I would recommend that you stick with the first Fox and the Hound movie, just because it's very original and a classic. For the kids, this sequel would be up their alley, but for the fans of the original, I wouldn't really go crazy over this.

Not great, but not bad
Anaiyak14 June 2007
As far as my experience with certain Disney sequels I was prepared for either success or failure. I got somewhere in the middle, the animation was lively and the acting good, but in the spirit of the original I didn't think it was quite there. The story failed to elaborate in relation to the original, unlike Bambi II which pulled it with surprising success. Having watched Bambi II I was very much expecting to see something of the same caliber, but this fell a little short. Too many new characters were introduced and several of the old characters didn't even merit a cameo appearance which was a little disappointing.

However, the movie still had it's fair share of cute moments to make you giggle, which was one of it's saving graces. The animation is at a great standard and no obvious flaws to spot and was casted reasonably well. I was concerned when the cover said "The music of today's hottest stars is centre stage" which sounded like a poor effort to grab the attention of any mainstream dolt, but the soundtrack wasn't too bad and had me tapping my toes in a few places.

From the point of view of a Disney cartoon it was a little under powered but it's still got some good laughs and pleasant moments, but don't go expecting the repeat success of the original.

Please Spare Me
thomas-allen105 January 2008
When I was a child, I absolutely adored Disney's The Fox and the Hound.

It was quite a dark drama focusing on the struggle of preserving a friendship when really the two different animals are suppose to be enemies in nature. I still found it to be a very good animated feature with some memorable characters and nice pieces of music to listen to.

But seriously, was there any need for a sequel when the first movie was released 27 years ago?

The Fox and the Hound 2 isn't as good as the original. I thought the storyline was weak and predictable

The animation in this film was very impressive but better technology doesn't mean better storytelling.

I just didn't think there was any need for a sequel because there was nothing more to add to the story. Although, showing Tod's cubs might have been good.

Overall, this film is nothing special and it's completely inferior to the original.

Disney really needs to stop making sequels because if you don't have a good story that is of equal quality to the first movie, what's the point in making a second one?

This Movie Sucks
Newatrain17 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was horrible. Thwe voices were all wrong, the story line was off topic from where we left off, like most Disney sequels, and none of the original people, voices or behind the scenes, were the same. The music wasn't the same old bluegrass Fox and The Hound music we all know and love, so that took away from it. It was this new uppity country music. Totally wrong to do a sequel more than 20 years later. I know half the old cast and crew is dead, but still. Bring back some of the originals. And Big mama, Boomer and Dinky weren't in this movie. If your gonna make a sequel, at least put the original characters in. Wish they hadn't made this. It really ruins the Fox and the Hound legend.

Terrible to the point of Abhorrence
americanodude14 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
How can my dislike of this movie be put into simple words? It would be quite difficult, but I can try. First off, let us begin with the tone of the movie. If you had watched the first Fox and the Hound, you would see that the tone has a great mix between uplifting and melancholy moments that adds a sense of depth and growth to not only the characters, but the entire film as a whole. This "sequel" (if it can be called that) ruins that perfect sense of balance and has the usual Disney sequel problem of being far to frivolous, as compared to the original tone of the movie. Second, within the first 10 minutes of the film, all the hope that I had for it being a great sequel to an amazing classic had vanished. The movie had introduced Chief and Amos Slade as bumbling, old idiots instead of the loyal, yet jealous, companion and calculating, yet obsessed, hunter that they had been in the previous movie. This further adds to the antipathy that this movie had produced within only a few moments of watching it. Finally, the plot of the movie. Really Disney? As if we needed another movie about how one of the main characters doesn't "fit in" or can't find his niche, so he goes out and joins whatever the blindfolded monkey throws a dart at on the "Disney Sequel Plot Table." Also, with all the new characters being added, it detracts from some of the more important/memorable characters from the original movie. Considering how the original was released in 1981, you would think that this movie would be tailored toward the children that had watched the original film at that time; However, after watching the movie I can now see that it was intended for the children of the individuals who had watched it. This movie has only been watched because the individuals who had watched the original recognize the name and think that it would perhaps appreciate to see what had happened after the events that had unfolded in The Fox and the Hound. Very disappointing movie and Disney should be ashamed for tarnishing the name of such a great classic. "Goodbye may seem forever, but in my heart a memory." That basically sumarizes my feelings in one sentence. While the original left a great implant upon my heart, this one will leave nothing but a sad thought that they could have at least tried with this sequel.

It looked great, but confused me a little
robyn-710-76716718 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
First off, the animation and any CGI used was great. It looked amazing, yet didn't seem to push too much into the whole computer graphics world. It was still cartoony looking enough. I really liked it, and it wasn't just one or two spoofs of animation here and there, lots of the film had the cool looking animation.

But what confused me was the plot. Was this a sequel, prequel, alternate ending, what? Because in the last movie, basically the fox and hound meet, the hound goes away, becomes a hunting dog, comes back, the fox gets in trouble, the hound wants revenge, and in the end they are friends but aren't allowed to communicate.

This one, suddenly they are little again and STAY little throughout the whole film... um, where's the bear and the other things like the girl that the fox met? The plot, assuming this was an alternate middle/ending, was very well made though even though it was predictable at times. The fox still got himself into the trouble but at least he admitted it.

Anyway, I rate this 7/10.

"Well, It's Better then Bambi II….Sort Of…"
meltingface759 June 2012
After watching Bambi II, I knew now that I can't trust Disney sequels. There always NEVER as good as the first. They suffer from being too babyish, TOO MUCH SINGING, sometimes even SHORTER then the first, and overall a LOT of people hate them. And that's the case with this.

Negatives: This, "Going to The Caraval" Crap never happened the first one. WHY THE HELL IS THIS STORYLINE HERE? I hate that little girl. NO REASON WHY SHE'S THERE. Too Babyish sometimes. Not as babyish as Bambi II though.

Positives: I admit I had some fun watching this. Dixie and cash is the only new character I like in this sequel. Animation is VERY good.

There is a lot of problems but it's sort of better then Bambi II. So I guess that's a plus.

I do not like it at all
dreamorchid-jg15 August 2012
They used Copper and Todd as young kids in the move, and at the End of the 1st movie they where all grown-up and they should have started them grown up. In all of the Disney 1st movies like Toy story Andy was little but in the 2nd movie he was a big kids, and also in lion King Simba is little lion and in the 2nd movie he is a big lion, also in the little mermaid Ariel fine Eric in the 1st movie and in the 2nd movie the has a daughter. I so not like the music in the movie I like the music in the 1st one better. I would not let my kids see the movie. My kids like the 1st one better. They do not have Big mama, Vixey, Dinky, Boomer. If they do a 3rd one I hope it is better then the 2nd one.

This is a completely different movie.
Animany948 December 2017
I know the animation better than many other Disney sequels, but that just adds to the insult of this pointless cashgrab.

I really don't see anything in this. I refuse to believe that the fox and the hound are the same characters. They must be completely different animals which just happens to look exactly like them.

There was a period of Separation in the original and not them joining a stupid band of dogs singing country music. God, this is stupid! Of all the Disney movies that did not need a midquel this is one of them, and worst of all it makes no sense and do not tie into the original story AT ALL!

As much as I absolutely despise Belle's Magical World it at the very least ties into the time when Belle was held in Beast's castle (even though I still refuse to acknowledge them as Belle and Beast), but The Fox & The Hound 2 is just a completely different movie with no reason to exist other than being a cashgrab.

Surprisingly good!
Ely-girl8 March 2007
This movie was surprisingly nice and heart-warming! At first I wasn't sure on the idea of watching a sequel but it turned out to be great! Plot line - Copper and Todd are still best friends and are always getting into mischief but it seems as if Copper is no good at anything -especially hunting! His luck quickly changes when he joins a band with the singing stays! Unfortunately Copper soon seems to have no time for Todd and it strongly affects there friendship.

This film was excellent in every way and most of the characters had a good sense of humour! The songs such as Friends For Life , blue beyond hound dude and We're In Harmony were very well done! (Hound dude was my favourite!) Even though this film is new the characters seemed to have there same voices just as they did in the old film! The animation was wonderful and just as before the film has all your favourite characters . E.G. Chief! The only thing I did notice about this film is that Big Momma (mummy!)wasn't in it but that really doesn't bother me! I recommend this film to everyone who likes the fox and the hound! They are both brilliant!

Regular...
RosanaBotafogo26 August 2021
I love the 81st version, simply for the affective memory of the record with the story I had when I was little, and that permeated my mind, with an almost dark story, at least that persecution always caused me a certain affectation, in my memory it will always be unforgettable, here were the characters, but the story no longer captivates, or I'm nostalgic and I can't accept this continuation, due to the inevitable comparison...

Unbelievably bad
redhoss29 December 2010
Was really looking forward to seeing this remake of the original Disney animated feature. Although I've grown used to Disney's declining standards of quality, I was completely surprised by the overall crappiness of this movie. The animation is haphazard, the story line is dull and predictable. But worst of all is the constant slapstick antics of every character falling into mud, boinking their heads, tripping on things, etc. About the same quality as 'modern' Saturday morning cartoons, that is to say, not fit for adults or halfway intelligent kids. The voice characterization of Reba McIntire is the only saving grace of the movie. Strongly recommend you pass on this version of Fox and Hound...the original is much, much better.

It doesn't deserve the title.
jabarker8130 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Fox and the Hound 2 is one of those cheap direct-to-DVD sequels made by Disney, and strayed away from the original. It has none of the charm of the original, the comedy within the picture is not funny, in fact, the title of the movie is Fox and Hound 2, and yet, it makes us feel like we're paying less attention to the Fox and the Hound. It adds in new characters, but they don't make any sense. The whole goal of the new characters is to, I'm not even kidding, sing at the Grand Opry. Here's one question. What the hell does that have to do with the original? And, this movie jumps the shark so many times that it's really hard to sit through. But, aside from the negatives, the positives, which were hard to identify, do include the animation's improvement, even though I love the original's hand-drawn style, and the beginning and end are the parts that are basically the best parts. After seeing this picture, I have wondered for days how this movie could've resulted. I really wish it could've been better. I really do. But, still, it's one of the worst Disney movies I have seen in my life. And that's coming from a fox lover.

Disney Really Hates Me
bonniejoy-978-687636 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly giving this film two points out of ten was too generous. This movie is so bad that I can't literally can't sit through it without gagging every 5 minutes. Even recalling everything about this film bothers me to the worst degree.

For those of you who don't know, the first Fox and the Hound was one of Disney's most adult works. It was about a fox (Todd) who lived near his neighbor who was a hound (Copper). They're best friends even though they're destined to grow up and be enemies. Though made for young audiences, it stated the facts of life without being cheesy about it or even slapping a happy ending onto it. The sequel, or midquel on the other hand is about when the two were still young, still friends, and they join a dog band. Could I go kill myself now?

Where do I start on what's wrong with that? How about the fact that it's a midquel? If you look at the first movie, there's no legit reason for this movie to exist. There are literally three days that Todd and Copper hang out before Copper gets taken away for the hunting trip, so where did these events come from? Second, why would this movie be selected for a direct to DVD midquel? Of all the movies to pick that didn't get one (like Alice in Wonderland or Sword in the Stone) why would a harsh story be picked out? I don't care if Todd and Copper look cute or if the animation's better, the first movie was about how life is not simple. This movie takes that message and trashes it with every bad children's movies clichés: bright and colorful, misunderstandings, unfunny slapstick, random celebrity cameos, horrible songs, liar revealed, moping and doping, lying to make everything right again, and a sappy happy ending.

The songs are the focus of the movie (aside from the uninteresting friendship), and they sound terrible. Of course Reba McEntire sounds gorgeous and Patrick Swayze is not too bad, but when you think "Fox and the Hound" do you really think of a country music concert? No, you would think of either the original book that Disney changed, or one of Disney's most thought provoking films ever made. This film manages to botch both by placing Copper and Todd in a band and having Copper be one of the singers. Not to mention his singing voice is way off key and is painful to hear it coming from Copper's mouth. It's painful to see the dogs singing or howling (whatever the humans can hear, that rule's never fully explained) because this plot came totally out of nowhere. Disney usually has a way of working songs into a story, but this movie just randomly pasted it onto the story in a way that it ends up working against itself.

I hate this movie with such a burning passion. This movie insulted and hurt me every 5 seconds. Hurt me visually, hurt my brain cells, hurt my ears, and hurt my intelligence. It was as though the people writing this movie did not ever watch the first movie and decided to write a movie. Or if they ever saw the movie, they wanted to demolish the adult theme to keep kids from thinking about the future or know the truth of life. Aside from Hunchback 2 and Belle's Magical World, I consider this one of The worst Disney sequels ever, because I can't stand the sight of it in any way.

As a sequel it is average, but it unfortunately lacks the charm of its predecessor
TheLittleSongbird6 October 2009
The original Fox and the Hound is a very charming and underrated film. The sequel/midquel had some cute moments and was average at best, but I did feel it lacked the charm of the predecessor, and it is and I quote "an inferior sequel". I will admit though that the animation is very very good, and the soundtrack decent and catchy. I also cannot deny that the voice acting was excellent, the standout easily being the late Patrick Swayze(may he rest in peace) as Cash. I liked the additional characters, and Todd is still really cute. However, the story is very weak, unfocused and predictable. The original's story focused on the friendship of Todd and Copper, and it was this that made the original so charming. Here, it was a nice idea, but there are a number of predictable moments and there was a lot of very little happening rather than focusing on the friendship. I don't think it helped that the writing was nothing to write home about. I also didn't like Copper in this, he wasn't much of a friend to Todd, and seemed selfish too. And where were Big Mama, Boomer and Dinky? I am probably one of the few people who really liked them in the original, and although the original voice actors have passed over since, they could have provided the humour with new voice actors. Plus the film is much too short. Because of these reasons, despite the redeeming qualities it definitely has, it was devoid of humour and most of the time charm. 5/10 for the animation, music and voice cast. Bethany Cox

A suitably entertaining premise
r96sk6 June 2020
A pretty fun follow-up to the 1981 film.

The original is obviously superior, by some distance, but 'The Fox and the Hound 2' delivers a suitably entertaining premise and decent voice acting to create solid viewing.

None of the cast are necessarily standout, perhaps barring Patrick Swayze's Cash, but they all give what's needed. Likewise with the animation, music and plot. On the latter, I don't love how it's forcibly sandwiched inbetween the events of the first production, though once it gets going it is enjoyable. It's all kept nice and short, too.

There are good and bad Disney animated sequels, thankfully this is more the former than the latter.

Great, another Disney Sequel/Prequel...
freakfire-11 October 2008
When will Disney stop with all of this? I guess when they stop coming up in the black will they realize this cheapens the Disney brand. Not only are the sequels pointless, they add no character development nor original story.

The fox and the hound in this movie are back on their respective farms. But instead of conflict that actually means life and death, you have one about making it big as singers in some dog group. Petty jealousy and popularity messages are conveyed. I guess that is the focus of today.

I did not like this movie and had a bad time watching the misadventure. Please do not bring out another Fox and the Hound movie. "D-"

Sequel Howling For Negativity
TheMysteriousReviewer10 February 2023
As much it's adorable to see foxes and dogs get along for a change, watching this movie feels almost the complete opposite. The Fox and the Hound 2 is just another pointless sequel that's just for the sake of cashing out the original. Despite how the animation does a good job like how the late straight-to-video Disney sequels would have, the writing for this is a mess. The story is so uninspiring that it doesn't give this any form of motivation as a followup. All we've seen is a boring plot line of Copper abandoning Tod to play the howling band of dogs. The new characters we gotten are pretty unlikable from an ego lead singer who cares about being a star. The voice acting is just hillbilly acting rather than being fateful to the ones from before. And the musical numbers are all unappealing. The original film wasn't meant to be a musical, it only had two songs and they fit nicely to the film. This one is filled with tedious country songs that are pointless and has no actual supportive ones to the plot whatsoever. As Disney sequels usually go, I recommend to skip this one and stick with the original. Even for dog lovers, they would appreciate the original much more than this. This is the kind of talent fair show that's anything but.

Sheer awesomeness.
thereseuphemiaabernathy12 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
For once I was expecting total disappointment and got better than I ever would have hoped for. Yes, this is a "mid-quel," but once you've seen the (incredible) first you can sort of imagine where these events might fit in. This has its own climax and all, but the plot fits within the original's parameters. It might not make 100% sense, but to go back and do something like this is pretty tough. It's all right.

So, what's good about The Fox and the Hound 2? Much more than anyone expects. First, the obvious animation. It, and the scenery, are wonderful. Bright, bold, shiny, fresh colors, detailed and true-to-the-first backdrops. Very expressive characters who are just delightful to watch--the way the dogs move is fantastic and well done. As to the country music, even if you're not normally a fan, there is nothing to dislike about the movie's songs. Particularly "Good Doggie, No Bone." (Great song. Like "Streets of Gold," it's sung to a young animal to educate them about something (it's really about herself, and what she's learned the hard way.) And ain't that what life is, though? "It's all, 'Good doggie,' but no bone!") They're nicely done by stars from the heart of country music, as explained on the DVD bonus feature.

And the story? Surprisingly great too; good dialogue, witty and humorous bits, good character development. None, or very little of, the usual sequel hokeyness and cheese I'd anticipated. The story of the county fair and aspiring Singin' Strays band is actually very believable. There are so many highlights it's hard to remember them all, but the scene near the end, in which the group performs for a jolly talent scout outside a quaint, old-fashioned diner comes to mind for one. The setting just helps to make the story work; that little diner is so cute, and so perfect for the scene. Same with the design of the Strays' trailer and its 'woman's touch' from Dixie.

I'm still dismayed to see sneak peeks for Cinderella 3 and The Little Mermaid 3 on the DVD, but at least this movie gives me hope that somebody still may know what they're doing making these sequels. Then again, this movie was almost tailored directly to me. More than anything I am a sucker for singing and dancing dogs: show me a film centered around that, and you've got me. I like to imagine a world where everyone's a dog and there are musicians along the lines of the Singin' Strays anyway, but even without such a love for this type of thing, you can appreciate the movie. It stands well enough on its own. But I'm saving the best parts for last.

Yes, it's pretty original; far from perfect, of course, but I won't run down all of the weaker points because as with any sequel, there are many. However, they don't drag down the big picture. Tod and Copper are naturally your young and precious main characters, but Chief, Widow Tweed and Amos Slade haven't been left out--or ruined, either. Chief is especially well animated and a good source of humor. The one character, though, who in my opinion really makes the movie great--in fact she makes the movie--is Dixie. When I first saw her and Cash on the cover, my impression was: 'OMG! It's Dodger and Rita from 'Oliver and Company' redone!' Because Cash's bandanna HAS to be an homage to Dodger. And Dixie has that same sort of look as Rita (which is my favorite 'look' in the world and when I see such a character, it's instant Favorite)--seriously, she's her cover-art twin. Well, turns out Dixie is something like the country cousin of Sasha LaFleur, another sequel-starring performer and Rita-type. A force to be reckoned with and of course the love interest of Cash, she's the most interesting character (and thanks to being in show business, the road is rough for her and Cash). Visually Dixie is an amazing character to watch; the way they made her move and dance just perfectly captures how you'd want to do it if you were her. She steals every scene she's in and I'm glad she's such a central character. Her song is probably the best part of the film. In fact, this movie probably should have been a separate, Singin Strays-centric non-sequel. So to wrap up, this movie basically blew me away--two thumbs up just for stunning me.

Less Than Worthless
JayWolfgramm31 May 2023
Whenever you go to the store and see this movie for sale, it is typically in a Blu Ray combo pack with the first "Fox and the Hound". What is appropriate to note is that next to it is a copy of first movie by itself without this sequel attached. The price of "Fox and the Hound": 23.99. The price of "Fox and the Hound 1 & 2" is 20.99. That makes the approximate market value for "Fox and the Hound 2" negative 3 dollars. And you know what? I would gladly pay the 3 extra dollars just to not have this sequel in my collection.

The movie's very existence is frustrating. Disney was trying to milk their sequel train for all it was worth, so they figured "Fox and the Hound" was next on the chopping block. But upon watching the film they realized, wait a second...how can we make a sequel to this movie? Everything got wrapped up in the first. We can't do a prequel because we see the two characters meet in the first movie. We literally see the beginning and ending of these characters stories. What are we to do?

They do like they did for "Bambi 2" or the "Beauty and the Beast" movies. They make, and yes this what they call it, an "inbetween-quel". A movie that takes after the beginning of the movie but before the ending. Something that by its own existence proves to be unnecessary. It would be like a compilation of scenes that were taken out of the original movie because they proved to be not relevant to the overall story.

Typically, when I am describing exactly why this movie is so bad, all I have to do is explain the premise. In "Fox and the Hound 2", Copper is given the chance to run away with a band of Western singing hound dogs. Never mind that everyone already knows how the movie will end, remember it is an "inbetween-quel", that may be the dumbest set up for a movie I have ever heard.

Let's throw in some celebrity voice actors. Kurt Russell was in the first, so let's have Patrick Swayze in this one. And let's have Reba and Jeff Foxworthy as well. This movie sounds like a joke movie, like a movie that wouldn't really exist but just an SNL sketch making fun of Disney. But no, it is real, and the joke is on all of us.

It is a shame, because I do love the first movie. One of my only critiques of it was that I would have wanted to see more time with Tod and Copper together as friends. In theory, this movie is giving me that. But if this is what I would have gotten, I was better off not knowing. Be like the rest of the world, and just pretend this movie doesn't exist.

I thought that this was going to be about Tod's cub(s)

Warning: Spoilers
I suppose that most of us are now familiar with the term "Disney midquel", however I was not until I purchased the Fox and the Hound 2. (Because of the title's long name, I will refer to it as TFATH 2) The animation was stunning, and the characters were very smooth and polished, like most of Disney's DTV followups. However, the same cannot be said for the somewhat lackluster story.

**this comment contains mild spoilers**

Copper and Tod are portrayed as pups in TFATH 2, yes, despite the "2" in the title's name. Copper becomes a member of the "singing strays", replacing an old member, and Tod becomes jealous. Well, we all know how this sort of story ends. How Disney manages to gain fanclubs for these midquels again and again (Bambi II is a good example of this) mystifies me. TFATH 2's quality was sub-par, and the story was a complete failure when compared to true Disney films such as the Lion King, Bambi, exc... Let us not forget the tacky country songs that will drive non die-hard country music fans up the wall. Now how could kids enjoy that?

I did not appreciate how Disney has fooled me by calling this a sequel. I hope that this review helps others to not make the same mistake that I did.

What is happening to our culture?
matts321-118 May 2009
I agree with every comment that has been made stating that The Fox and the Hound 2 was made in poor taste, and that the story was far inferior to the original. What is happening to our culture? When will the bastardization of classic stories that convey cherished themes and morals ever stop? In my opinion, Disney will never be what it used to be, and that is sad. What an incredible loss. If we, as Americans, want to experience anything of real value in literature and storytelling in this day and age, we have to park ourselves in the culture we created thirty years ago and prior and remain stuck there, because almost everything Disney or Hollywood creates now depicts violence, blatant sex and sexual themes, and as another comment said "themes of petty jealousy and popularity." What a disgrace.

Great idea, but horrible

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was a train wreck. To eliminate the confusion about this being a prequel or sequel. It's none of them. This movie was a 'midquel' I was surprised there was such a thing. The Fox and the Hound is a classic Disney movie, a strong storyline and which this one lacked by far, the story of this movie was weak and unstable. Now granit kids from this time who watched this movie enjoy it. It's a kids film, but not like when I was a small kid. The fox and the hound is a powerful film it's a prized film for Disney viewers and Disney themselves. This particular film was a get rich quick film, by incorporating real artists to sing in the film so they can pretty much advertise their work to younger generations. Resaulting in the Hannah Montana effect, if you know what I mean. Tod and Copper were greatly remade near perfection in this film, like a copy and paste from the firstwhitch was great I thought. But that's why I gave this a 2.0. Copper and Tod were adorable as in the first one. To sum this up, this film was really unnecessary for Disney to release, it destroyed the original idea of the film. The fox and the hound was a happy, sad, cute and heart wrenching story, to this day I still cry to it. But this film lacked every thing the story of the cute dog and fox had in the first film. This was better off being a completely new original film. Then again it was a money game. They had to hurry and make a film and put a country artist in it cause they needed to put that specific artist on the map per say. Sorry to be so rough, but this is the truth of the film. Great kids movie but commercially inspired to make money quick.
