It's a tradition

I love the episode. It's unforgettable. The match featured in this episode was invented in the 1800's and changed the lifestyle of our ancestors.

Thank you to Elizabeth Montgomery and crew. You are still loved.

Well written !

Warning: Spoilers
I always marvel at the clever writing in this episode. Though we really do not know how English sounded, we certainly have a good idea. So I enjoyed how authentic sounding the citizens of Plymouth were.

But my main praise for this episode goes to the writers who spun a sound logical reasoning during the trial scene - as much as can be portrayed in a half-hour sitcom, of course.

It always makes me smile to listen to Elizabeth Montgomery defend Dick York. Yes, it's her delivery but the real prize is the writing by the very talented Levitt team.

The Levitt's: Alfred Lewis Levitt and his wife Helen Levitt wrote under different last names. Alfred August and Helen August, because they had been blacklisted in the 1960s.

Scapegoating

Warning: Spoilers
Love how Samantha's defensive speech can be applied today for any group that has ever been oppressed. For years, those in power or with money would find a scapegoat in the black, Latinix or LGBTQIA+ community whenever the elites made a mistake or something went wrong in world.

I applaud The writers for showing how Phineas used scapegoating against the people by calling them witches back in the 17th century. Then they made it relevant to the 20th century by having Samantha mention how people are scapegoated because they talk differently or have a different last name.

This was a bold episode for the 1960s. Bravo to everyone involved and special shout-out to the advertisers!
