Warning: Spoilers
Watching Danny, Ruben and Keith trying to "rescue" Shirley and Laurie is hands down the funniest episode of the series. Watch the guys try to survive a night in the wilderness is pure comedy gold. The three of them together have great timing and chemistry. It's a good thing Shirley and Laurie were close by the guys wouldn't have survived!

As to how inept they were remember they mocked everything Shirley and Laurie were doing before they even left following the Girl Scout handbook and how they even set up camp. It's not surprising in a way Keith and Danny are so unprepared they didn't think so much about that neither bothered to pack properly or bring the food because they leave it up to others. I think Keith said the guitar was just habit it's all he really thinks about other that girls. Ruben is funny the city bachelor on a camping trip! Would it be funny if they are really prepared or knew what they were doing? That's the point Shirley and Laurie had the equipment too. It's just the contrast the guys were asked not to do anything about the trip and they took it upon themselves but didn't think any of it through.

The battle of the sexes
kevinolzak5 March 2014
"Hel-l-l-p" is a typical battle of the sexes, as Shirley and Laurie decide to go camping in the wilderness, closely followed by Reuben, Keith, and Danny, who naturally believe those 'helpless females' can't possibly survive without male egos nearby. It's no surprise who encounters poison oak and other natural obstacles, neglecting to bring along necessities such as food, can openers, or sleeping bags (the women had a ball). Danny claims he thought they were taking him to a drive-in movie! The best gag comes last, courtesy a little girl scout (Cindy Henderson), Reuben sheepishly admitting, "we've come to rescue you!" A rare instance where the episode begins with the featured song, "I'm on My Way Back Home" (the same footage taken from "Days of Acne and Roses"), composed by Jack Keller and Bobby Hart, from the LP SOUND MAGAZINE.

Another absurd message!

This episode, as well as "This Male Chauvinist Piggy Went to Market:" 3.1, show that the males on this show are completely inept, incompetent, and unprepared! The only saving grace was Chris is not involved is any way!

How could three guys go camping without food, bedding, shelter, or any provisions at all? Each one had a suitcase, with clothes in them, and nothing else. Keith brings his guitar, why? It never gets played, I don"t believe. How could they have been so stupid? Especially Danny. He is ALWAYS prepared for anything! In the end, they get lost, and need mom to save them.

Exactly, what were the writers trying to say?
