Sex & Nudity

  • A certain character (Vanille) has a tendency to make moans and groans during combat that may sound somewhat suggestive/sexual to some.
  • Some of the characters wear clothes that reveal legs, or cleavage. Nothing too bad compared to other Final Fantasy games.

Violence & Gore

  • A man named Snow gets injured by the bomb blast which causes him and Hope to fall off a building, Snow also limps while walking, despite this he carries a boy named Hope on his shoulders. He then collapses in exhaustion. His stomach is bandaged in order for him to heal.
  • Frequent violence.
  • People are killed in cutscenes quite often.
  • A strong theme of the game is revenge. This leads to a lot of hate, and violence.
  • There is no blood, however.

Profanity

  • At one point in the cutscene game Snow uses the word "Bitch" which isn't shown in the subtitles as he tries to punch Barthandelus and fails.
  • Frequent uses of hell, damn, damned, dammit, ass, piss, crap.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Very mild references, if there are any.
  • A man owns a bar. There are a few scenes in a bar on a beach.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This game can get intense as your party faces monsters in turn based battles which heavily relies on the combo attack system setup which may get very frustrating for the player if they don't set it up right and may result in a game over screen.
  • The game maintains a very emotionally intense atmosphere. The game, in some aspects, is much more mature and intense than the previous Final Fantasy games.
  • Some of the monsters might be freaky looking for some kids.
  • A strong theme of the game is the problem of prejudice, and revenge. Characters constantly speak of killing each other, or even try to take each other's lives.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A man accidentally looks up a female character's skirt as she climbs an obstacle, and he reacts with alarm. However, when the camera shifts to his point of view, a flying bird-like creature obscures the player's view of this.
  • A girl lifts up her dress to reveal a mark on her upper hip. No nudity, but close.
  • A girl awakes from being asleep. She is completely naked. However all of the shots are of her back, we see no nudity, but you see the side of her breasts, and we almost see her buttocks.
  • Lightning briefly exposes her cleavage to Fang to show her L'Cie marking. This is not exactly shown however.

Violence & Gore

  • In the beginning of the game a man lets go of a woman, dropping her off of a cliff, which kills her.

Profanity

  • Some times it uses Damn,Hell. Or a quote "You son of a-" snow gets knocked down but it's basically a one in a lifetime deal.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The overall atmosphere of the game is quite heavy and hopeless, with characters acting depressed or even suicidal at times. At a few points, some of the main characters even attempt to kill each other. This can be quite depressing to some players.
  • The fal'cie might frighten some children. They are all kind of freaky looking.
  • A man moves as if to shoot another character, who has the appearance of a teenager (but acts much older). However, he turns the gun on himself. We see his shadow raise the gun and hear a bang, then see him in what appears to be a coffin. It is later revealed that he did not, in fact, shoot himself, but for a short amount of time it seems as though he committed suicide.
  • A woman is tortured.
