Wraps up the first arc in a satisfying way
felicoorozco19 March 2019
The first arc of Spectacular Spider-Man has mostly been a reintroduction of sorts so all the familiar elements are set in stone and don't take up space later down the line or so they could be turn around but even then it has been a great ride full of conflicts in both of Peter's worlds.

Building off the last episode again, Dr Connors' finally gives himself in to his own investigation and injects lizard genus onto himself, giving birth to the Lizard.

Like the last episode, the way the show presents Connors' perspective is understandable. Him having no arm makes him really go obsessed with his own investigation and the moment where he pulls it off for a moment is really beautiful. His moments with his family, the really mature and releatable converstaions with his wife and the adorable interactions with his son makes the turn into the Lizard much more satisfying, even more taking into account it has been teased and built up from the last few episodes.

As for Peter, his money problems have made him really keen on getting a job, with a particular photo-taking job at that one newspaper being in his mind. The stakes are raised higher on a personal level for Peter when he realizes the conflict itself is connected to Dr Connors', leaving huge consequences that turns his life around, all while planting seeds for future events of the season.

With a trademark witty script, fantastic animation and a great understandable human conflict, it's one of the series' most effective closures to an arc. More stakes on the Spidey side of things would've made this episode a tad better, but that doesn't mean it isn't great on it's own.

7/10.

A satisfying payoff to the lizard storyline

Right off the bat this episode starts with some classic spidey charm as he stops a bunch of criminals from robbing a bakery, then we get the o so catchy theme song to Peter arriving home expecting bank from the bugle for his spidey pics but alas our hero fails yet again. But my favorite part of this episode has to be the way they handled the lizard, unlike other incarnations this version is just there to cause chaos while his other counterparts has this dumb idea of turning everyone into lizards. It also raises an interesting question "would doc Conners have regained his arm without the transformation if electro hadn't electrocuted it". And at the end we see peters friends fire him because of taking pics of the lizard which not only is a great setup for Eddie Brock's eventual turn as the lizard it also has one of my favorite moments in the show why Peter must not give up being spider man. Another great episode with an incredible ending.

Simply effective

Warning: Spoilers
Obviously this cartoon isn't super complex, but that doesn't mean it can't be effective

The humor, choreography, and cinematography (especially music) are all great, and this episode goes beyond the normally good and entertaining stories of this show so far to also give us a pretty great conflict for Peter Parker wanting to get rid of Spider-Man because of how he's detailing his life.

I'd say it's perfectly done for what it is, but i reserve 10/10 for particularly compelling episodes that tend to also tackle a lot more. Nothing against this episode of course, not every episode can tackle super complex and philosophical themes, but this one does great with a simple one.

Still great

Warning: Spoilers
The third episode continues to maintain a high level of quality. The story with the lizard significantly influences the life of Peter Parker, and even makes him think about giving up a superhero career; this will also affect the formation of Venom in the future.

And again, the animated series leaves me no chance for any criticism, since everything is flawless. Curt Connors here, as always, is shown to be an excellent person, and the lizard is a formidable opponent. Peter continues to defeat his opponents with intelligence rather than brute force. I would give it a ten if it were another animated series, but here every episode is done with dignity, so only.
