Gives new meaning to infinite health/ammo!!!!
NoNameRick27 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
maybe a few spoilers-not storyline related.

Dark Sector is a brilliant video game if you love action, blood & gore! Also, what you will enjoy is you practically have infinite ammo/health, and here is why: First of all, the game pretty much evolves the use of the glaive, you will find yourself using this three bladed killing weapon throughout the game rather than ANY gun. The reason for this is because, not only does it help you open crates or unlock gates or solve simple puzzles, it is the best weapon in the game! The fact that it always returns without failure signifies-infinite ammo! Sure, you may have to move in closer for the enemy to be in range of the glaive, but that never is a problem! And for the infinite health, yes you can die, but if you find yourself heavily attacked, just take cover and your health will regenerate automatically. None of that, search for health packs while you're on your last leg. The enemies in the game are fun to kill! It is great to hear the human enemies (with automatic weapons) scream for help while you're throwing the glaive towards them, it gives you power! What also makes the glaive better is the power-ups you gain as you progress. My favorite is "search and kill" thats what i call it (cant remember the real name) but with this power up you can throw the glaive and then you, the player, can guide it where ever you want it. Its great when you want decapitations and it is very useful during puzzles. However, like all good there is some bad, but for this game it isn't a huge bad. And the bad for "Dark Sector" is the story. As you're caught up in the action, you forget about the story, not to mention the story is very weak. But that does not ruin the game in any way. If you want a lot of action and gore Dark Sector is for you. If you want good storyline and jaw dropping twists, you wont find it here. In closing, another good thing about the game is when you complete it, you can choose which chapter you want to choose from rather than playing it from start to finish.

An interesting combo of gun play and melee combat: A Dark Sector
Wolfdemon1 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Dark Sector seems like one of those good but overlooked budget games but there was something interesting about the game. This game features both gun fights and melee combat. Here's a review of Dark Sector.

Story: Dark Sector is about a CIA operative named Hayden Tenno on a mission to capture a rogue scientist named Robert Mezner in the Soviet country of Lasria. During the mission, he is quickly captured by Mezner and his soldiers and soon infected by a bio-organic virus called Technocyte. When infected by this deadly virus, the victim undergoes a horrific and painful transformation into a monster. However, what Mezner didn't count on is that Hayden is suffering from congenital analgia, an actual disease that doesn't allow him to feel pain. This disease prevents him from feeling the painful side effect of the virus. Thanks to the Technocyte virus, Tenno develops a three-bladed weapon called the glaive. With his new glaive, Hayden sets out to stop Robert before he infects the world with the virus. Sidenote: It would've been nice to have a bit more back story to the main cast of characters in Dark Sector and made Hayden Tenno a bit more relatable to the player. Not that it's a huge flaw but it was something that could've been better. 3/5

Graphics: The graphics in this game isn't the best but they don't look too bad. The level design is pretty good but there are clipping issues in some spots. The glaive is really shiny and very beautiful to look at. 3/5

Sound: The glaive has an amazing sound when thrown. Michael Rosenbaum, voice of the Flash from Justice League, did a pretty good performance as Hayden Tenno. Same thing with Dwight Schultz for his villainous performance as Robert Mezner. 5/5

Gameplay: The controls are pretty responsive. While Dark Sector does barrow gameplay from Gears of War, the game does stand by itself with the melee combat. There is a pretty good balance between the gun fights and the melee combat. The game mixes it up with brutal finishers, unlocking doors, killing enemies with the use of electricity, fire, and ice, and uses something called After Touch, a mechanic that allows the player to control the glaive to hit its target. Sometimes the AI can get dense and enemies would get frozen in midair from explosions. 4/5

Despite the flaws, Dark Sector is a brutal and fun game. I recommend renting it or buying it, it's up to you.

Final Score: 3.5/5
