So, we're just going to ignore...
huntergirl-1318919 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
...that Bree got run over and thrown by a bison? That is easily enough to kill a person, let alone a slight woman like her.

Excellent episode
merril44425 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly, to address the few poor reviews, how you can review something you didn't fully watch is beyond me. I do not think there was too much dialogue, nor was the episode boring. I don't think these reviewers have read the books if they don't like wordy dialogue! I loved this episode & think all the actors did a great job, especially Sam. Although I knew Jamie wasn't going to die, it was still touching seeing him battle to stay alive, even when he was his own worst enemy. I really enjoyed the camaraderie & bonding between Roger & Jamie too.

My one criticism is the encounter Bree had with the buffalo. I don't think anyone thrown in the air by a charging 900kg beast could get up without the appearance of even being winded, let alone seriously injured! And to then jump up & run over & pick up her child as if it hadn't happened - not believable!

Wonderful episode 10 stars
cafilbeck19 April 2020
I believe that Sam and Cait being producers on the latest shows has made a huge difference in the quality of the shows. Their influence can be seen and felt.

I've watched this 3 times already, followed very close to the book. Everyone in the cast did an excellent job. Loved the bits of humor.

Sam's episode to shine
dagroden19 April 2020
This episode stays very close to the book. Sam Heughan's acting is phenomenal in this episode. Every episode of season 5 has knocked it out of the park. Amazing acting by everyone.

The merging of the season
bne2620 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I feel this episode could be "boring" or "same ol same ol" to those who aren't actively listening or, even worse, actually fast forwarding through it (and then leaving a review)... but to me this episode tied together a few loose ends. You can see the bonding occurring between Ian, Furgus and Jamie in regards to respect and being a man in this day in age. Also, is shows Roger and Jamie and their father/son relationship get better. This episode really bonded all the guys together. With a peak at the next episode, you see how this will help all the guys as they search for Bonnet. And lastly, It solidified the bond and love that Claire and Jamie have for one another! Great episode, dialogue and foreshadowing

A Biased Review
jmansmannstjohnslrev30 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes you have to admit you're biased, and on this one I will admit, this is probably my favorite part of Fiery Cross. I think there are a few reason why. First, you see how far Roger has grown as a character. It is somewhat strange in the tv series, since in the story alot of time has passed since his hanging, while in the show it's been one episode, but you finally see Roger taking responsibility for defending his family. He'll never be a warrior, he'll never be Jaime. But he is ready to defend and fight for his family and fight for his son.

With respect to Jaime's storyline, what always stood out to me the most was the reason why he couldn't die, the reason why he had to fight to survive. Some reviews equate this with Season 1 but it's completely different. In Season 1, Jaime was ashamed, did not want to survive because he did not feel worthy to be Claire's husband after what had happened. Claire brings him back by making him understand that there is nothing to be ashamed of, that she does accept him regardless of the damage done. I think this episode shows Jaime's growth. Pride does affect his initial decision not to want his leg cut off, but he survives not because of overcoming shame (he is willing to lose the leg), but rather out of recognition that his entire family needs him, that he has a responsibility to defend his family. Claire brings him back but it's not just about her, it's about the storm that is coming and the need his family has of him.

As I enjoyed this part in the book, it's unsurprising that I enjoyed the episode as well as it is very similar and very well acted by all parties. I guess I can see why some might not like the episode, especially if you haven't read the book, since it may seem odd, but having read the book, there really isn't anything to complain about.

Outlander no longer an exciting story about time travel and the past
WishingWatcher20 April 2020
Season 5 is off. There's less action and more slowed down storytelling. It turned into the type of show I dont normally watch with more emphasis this season on family, babies, bonding etc. and less on exciting adventures.

Facing mortality
marianne_denning19 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sam Heughan does his best work when he is in crisis...great performance. Good to see Jamie and Roger bond and the mutual respect developing is wonderful. Every minute was so well done! Loved Marsali's ma moment. Young Ian realizing that Jamie is human was superb. Fergus just making the loss of a limb another part of living. Entire episode was perfection.

This season isn't what it should be..
darkdementress5 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Outlander has definitely taken a turn for the worst and it's real sad. Maybe it's lucky to still be a 7-8 star show and every good show seems to die off at some point but its still depressing to see such awkward mess ups that i wouldn't expect from such a (previously) amazing show. The past seasons were so real and so believable i felt like the things that happened could of happened to people in my life. Now it's just another show with ridiculous writing that doesn't care enough to be good.Venomous smake bite symptoms include chills, sweating, swelling and bruising near the wound that spreads, flesh being eaten away by the venom, dizziness, confusion and vomiting. Considering Jamie only had about 2 of those and then reported a fever, the bite was only swollen and red/black near the end and apparently the leg needed to come off do to infection?? Snake bites don't rot, the venom disolves the flesh and spreads through your veins.. I'm really disappointed in how poorly they handled the whole thing. Didn't seem real or very concerning to me as a viewer. I don't think the production team did their homework.I don't care how it played out in the book, this show was previously based on logic, realism, sound reason and amazing emotional story telling!

Bri getting full on rammed by a randomly appearing buffilo was VERY strange!! But the fact she gets up and walks away like she was hit by a butterfly? Really bad directing there.. when Jamie is dying in bed, that somehow seemed like the best time for Clair to fling off her clothes and lay on him? Yes i understand he was dying, said he was cold and she wanted to be near him and comfort him but Clair is a doctor, a smart logical woman.. she would of tried reviving him or something that might actually help. In the very least this needed to play out in a more thoughtful and touching way. It completely took me out of the moment and left the super romantic idea of the scene in the dust.. Half of this season the episodes just seem flung together and jumbled. Really disappointed!! :(

Surprised we hadn't had a snake bite yet, but give Outlander credit for taking a simple thing and making it work.

Snooze Fest. Too much talking.
KittyChrisKat20 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode could have been (should have been) 15 minutes long IMO. Did anyone think Jamie was in any danger of dying or having his leg amputated? I don't think any good came from stretching it out for almost an hour and having those long conversations between him and Roger. The argument with Claire about letting him die was familiar. It reminded me of the other time Jamie told Claire to let him die after he was abused by Jack Randall. That felt real back then. You could empathize. This time I just wanted the episode to hurry up and end.

Keeps getting better and better
jra2819 April 2020
This season has been wonderful. Every episode has condensed and fooled with the timeline but it has followed the book so well. Caitriona Balfe And Sam Heughan hit out of the park again. This episode was so compelling.

My only complaint, the lack of interaction between Jamie and Bree. There was a little in 509, but not enough compassion. Jamie shared more with Roger than he has throughout the season with Bree!!

Fake reviews
lluca-4774823 May 2020
There must some be fake in the low rating reviews. How can one give 1 or even 5 or 6 to this episode? (or others) Must be great confusion on those viewers on what Outlander is; to decide on their own that it should be an endless adventure? The first 3 seasons were great in that, but were poorer in deepness and character building. Seasons 4-5 slowed down the adventures to introduce more subtlety and more artistic value and meaning. In this episode, the power of dialogues was again at best. Marvelous acting (just watch carefully Cait's eyes when she speaks). The picture of Claire's body on Jamie's body and Jamie's face could be a painting in a museum.

The emotional roller coaster, the small innuendoes Richard Rankin smiling full faced to heart wrenching sobriety as care taker. Over the top on this one! So glad the put the gimmicks away.

Well balanced - Monsters and Hero's.
loristeranko20 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has a nice smooth arc of the story line with all of the principle players taking part. The TV show is known for following the Diana Gabaldon book series as best as they can, this Season was no exception but with the two lead characters, Caitriona Balfe (Claire) and Sam Heughan (Jamie) as PRODUCERS and actors this year, the episodes seem to have a better flow between scenes and the interpretation of each actors roles is more natural than sometimes the writers "write". The snake bite story in the books was chilling knowing that Jamie might die or loose his leg, or even worse, just fret about loosing a leg and fade away. Claire has to wrestle with the idea that maybe this is beyond her expertise and at a time when this is a death sentence for most. Will they be okay? Will their love for each other keep both of them strong? Stay tuned folks.....this series keeps getting better and better! Kudos to Mr. Heughan for his fine performance of a man dealing with the possibilities of death, and dying, and the decision to keep fighting , never to give up, for the love of Claire.

Where is the magic that was in Season 1, 2, 3 and possibly 4?
Ziggy196520 April 2020
I really thought "The Ballad of Roger Mac" was a turning point in the season and that it would get better from there. But alas it has been pretty dull.

Overall a dull season with just 2 story lines:

1) Murtagh and the regulators. (that is done) 2) Stephen Bonnet (that is to come now)

Only 3 more episodes to go! Yeah!!!!!

Give Andrew Adair an emmy stat. He nailed it as Jemmy.
KnickKnacker20 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Kudos to Andrew Adair for his spot on portrayal of Jemmy. His performance as a toddler watching his parents in bed was outstanding! I laughed out loud as Jemmy giggled when Brianna made that joke about Roger. The expression of delight on Andrew Adair's face took my breath away. But it didn't stop there. As he proudly thrust his little hand above his head and uttered the word "sh-t", I told myself this is some high class A-list acting here and immediately began to bawl.

I was in awe and went through an entire box of tissues as I watched. You can see the bonding occurring between Jemmy, Roger, and Brianna in regards to respect and being a baby in that day and age. Also, it show Roger and Jemmy and their father/son relationship get better. #KingOfAllToddlers #JustLikeTheBook
