I have to admit, I was a bit nervous when I heard that an important character would die that would affect everyone in the Dunphy/Pritchett clan for several episodes. I first thought it would be Frank (Phil's dad) or Javier (Manny's dad), but worried it would be someone bigger. I'm kind of bummed we won't see Shelly anymore- her episodes were always guaranteed winners- but I feel like it was a good choice and it was handled wonderfully. You'd think it'd be a bit more of a somber episode, but it was hilarious, absolutely loved it. The costumes alone were worth a watch!

What a great episode, how it came back to a quirky humor of every day life, including tragicomic parts.
Relied on chemistry of cast, comedy of human interactions, instead of unnecessarily twisted plots. Modern Family amassed enough of history of characters, that they can believably take their individual roles and defend them well. It was like coming back to the Family, but with a gust of fresh air. I absolutely loved it, one of the best episodes in a series.

I don't know what the writers were thinking when they decided to do an episode of this sort, and just to make it more difficult, DeDe was the person to die. She is a complex character, and in the past, has been a bit of a pain, which makes it difficult to create sympathy among the audience, and I certainly didn't feel anything. They tried to write in cheap jokes which were just awkward, relative to the topic, and the atmosphere and overall episode just couldn't decide what it was. Was it sad? Was it funny? I have no idea.
Lily's character is annoying as ever, which I guess is supposed to be funny? I don't know. Her contribution to this episode was simply to mess with Gloria.
I'm really disappointed with this show, and I'm now just waiting for a great show to finish up. They should have put this to sleep 4 seasons ago

When the powers that be at 'Modern Family' claimed they would kill off a major character in s10 I think people thought it would be a character a little bit more crucial than Dede, so that in itself is a disappointment.
'Modern Family' has never really gone down the route of death before, and probably shouldn't again, as this was not one of the better episodes.
It was a nice idea, but it just doesn't play out in either a funny or moving way.
One to skip on the dvd.

I painfully watched season 9, then I've been painfully watching season 10. This is by far the worst episode of the whole series. Modern Family use to be my favorite comedy show on TV, but after this episode I'm done watching.. This was an absolutel disgrace of an episode AND it was their yearly Halloween episode.. What a great way to dtop the ball.
Please... PLEASE make this the last season of the show and quit running it into the dirt!

I can't even believe I continue to watch this show in its current state. It is unfunny, has zero charm, and is nothing more than a hollow shell of the once great show it was. I was very disappointed. This episode was the worst of all and it really makes me wonder when and why did sitcoms start losing their humor and comedy?

...than crack, and sowly falling off the wall. Watching that also. As a tribute, this ep. makes no sense, since Shelley Long is alive and kicking. Maybe she bailed on the show, hopefully, not because of a bad feeling about the rest of it. I'm just now watching it on Netflix, so I'm kinda behind on it. The show had its ups an downs along the years, but always, in my opinion, managed to get back on track. Curious how they are going to pull out of this one.
So this wasn't a bad episode
